Bye-Bye Finals, Welcome Future!!

E rieccomi qua!!!

Nota dolente time: Spagnolo.

-------------

And here I am again!!!

As written in last month's post, I wasn't going to post anything during finals due to the lack of time (and a slight touch of laziness as well ;-) ), so, now that exams are nothing more than memories, I'm back!

This isn't going to be a long one, just a recap of the last month focused, as you've probably guessed, on the academic topic.

First of all, let me reassure you: it went well, more or less. I can say I'm satisfied, all things considered, even though I didn't manage to reach perfection, and therefore to come out of it with a score of 5/5. This obviously means I had to postpone the real celebration, which will hopefully take place in September.

Yes, I didn't pass the Spanish exam, if we can call it an exam. Personally, I find terms such as "farce" or "mockery" much more fitting ("presa per il culo" for those of you who read Italian and want an adequate translation).

But let's follow the order.

My schedule consisted of 3 exams in 5 days, as a warm up (from the 25th to the 30th of May) followed by Spanish on the 6th and the last one, Interpreting Eng - Ita, on the 14th.

I didn't struggle to pass the first 3 and I even manage to get quite good grades (26, 27 and 28, which means that, to complete the straight, I only needed a 29 and a 30 ;-) ).

Literature, in particular, was the one I was most scared of, so you can imagine my relief after passing it. To be honest, despite being quite prepared, I did have some luck, I admit it. Maybe, had I had different questions, things'd have been more difficult. And I'm sure there were people who maybe had studied more than me, but graded worse. They'll do better next time, I'm sure.

And, to speak frankly, some help from stars is always appreciated ;-).

Being quite confident after the first one, I moved on to the second one, which, I have to say, was rather funny. I even manage to start a conversation with the teacher before my oral (the perks of being the first one examined ;-) ) and we went on talking and laughing for some minutes, until I pointed out it was time to begin. I was manipulating her, that's why I got a good grade ;-).
This shows you the power of my elocution :-).

Apart from jokes though, I was in top form (not sick as last year) and I made up for that mediocre performance.

And now let's move to English, the exam that has always had a special meaning to me. By now, I think even stones are aware of my not-so-secret love for the language ;-). Anyway, I've never cared too much about the mark in this specific case. I was eager to test myself and, hopefully, to get a positive feedback. And this is what I got. Not really in the grammar written part (quite useless and meaningless, since the way of correcting), but in the practical part. That one was a tough challenge, above all the listening bit.

Passed these, it was orals time and I was really chuffed to bits by the possibility of going through an exam made in the English way, in perfect CAE or IELTS style. I needn't say that I could've gone on talking forever (believe me, I'd pay for such a possibility ;-) ), but of course it wasn't possible in that situation, so, Jacopo, be happy of those 10-15 minutes (c'mon, it's nothing! Give me at least 30 minutes!!) and be grateful for the opportunity! :-)

- note to any English speaker I know or I might know in the future: you don't have to fear me, I'm just like a child in a sweet shop every time I can have conversations in English, but nothing more! Ok, maybe I'm a bit of a talker, but that doesn't make me dangerous, right?? :-P -

Let's come to the sad thing: Spanish. I don't really want to lose too much time talking about it, so I'll be quick. Also because I still get nervous for this exam. The worst exam I've ever studied for, a course that hasn't taught anything at all, except that even at University some teachers are really harmful and deleterious, therefore they should not be allowed to be there.

I didn't pass it because he didn't want me to pass. Even considering at least 7-8 points taken out unfairly, I had still the chance to get that 18, which is the minimum grade for succeeding. I scored 35/60, with the passing line at 36!!!!!

But don't get it wrong, I'm not angry for failing (though it's the first time in 3 years), I'm furious for the lack of a fair treatment, since he intentionally increased some of the grades for no reason, forcing many other people who didn't deserve that to redo the exam (he chose the 31st of August, hurrah...).

Luckily, I got past the disappointment in time for the last exam, turning the frustration into a strong will of succeeding in the last one to go on holiday happy. And I managed, since I got 30.

And now I'm finally done talking about exams!!! :-)

I hope to build the foundation for my next future during this summer. Speaking of future, lately I've been mumbling quite a lot and I'm happy to say the mist in front of me is slowly scattering. Believe me, if everything goes as I'm dreaming, I'll be the happiest person in the world. Not only professionally speaking, but also considering all the things I'd end up learning. So many wonderful projects, I can't wait!!!! :-)

- note n2: besides being a talented talker, I'm also a skilled dreamer, you know ;-) -.

Of course, there are certain people who might not agree with me, but, as I said on Twitter, I won't let others impose me their opinions or force me to do anything, not even if the input comes from the family. I'm open and willing to reason and to listen to different points of view, but I'm 21 and it's my future we're talking about, therefore I'm the one making the final decision, period.

So please, my wonderful readers, support me and wish me luck (even if I'm likely not to know the vast majority of you haha :-) )!!

A Full but Lovely Week!

Tornando all'altro punto fondamentale, giovedì ho finito le lezioni.

----------

Oh my God, this is really the second post in two weeks (more or less)! I still can't explain myself how this is possible!! :-)

- don't worry, exams are about to begin and this means I'm going to disappear again soon ;-) -

To tell the truth, I should be studying right now, so naturally I'm writing here. I just couldn't help it, I needed something more than 5 minutes away from books! (Ok, now I'm overdoing it a bit, but it's not that far from reality).

Anyway, since the last one was a really nice week -I think hectic, but in a positive way, is the right word-, I thought I had to jot down a couple of lines about it.

Let's begin from Sunday the 1st of May and go on till the following Sunday.

First of all, that one was the last week of classes at university, which is undoubtedly something good. Ok, I may not seem very happy about that, and the very reason for it is somehow related to the fact I'm still far from calling myself out of the thing. Having exams and a dissertation to write makes it a little bit difficult for me to enjoy the moment, you know.

But hey, time out talking about boring stuff. That Sunday was a brilliant day because I finally had the chance to meet Bethany, who had landed in Venice a few hours before, and therefore to make sure she actually exists and is a real person ;-). Sadly, we managed to do very little, but I was still over the moon for that time with her and her mother.

Oh, I also didn't lose the chance to show them one of my "qualities": the indisputable gift for epic fails I've always had :-). Yes, I succeeded in leading them to a block end right after crossing a bridge to see if there was a nice place to drink something in that direction. Ops!!

And she proved herself to be quite practiced in the art of recording these moments on her camera. I'd never seen such speed in extracting a camera from a bag before, she almost got me unprepared ;-).

We talked a lot and, the more important bit, we laughed a lot. It was lovely!! :-)

- No need for me to mention I almost got lost (again!!) while walking back to the railway station -

By the way, Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, in case you hadn't guessed it :-).

Best sight for some ice cream, isn't it? ;-)

Unfortunately, I didn't have other chances to see her during her permanence, but I was so determined to meet her at the airport before her departure. Going through some communication problems due to her not having internet on the phone and, of course, through the heat of a typical Italian sunny early afternoon was worth it. I'm very happy because she managed to have a great time here, it's what I had hoped. Oh, and she swore to come back soon since, apparently, she hadn't been able to see even half of the things she had planned to visit. I can't wait for it! :-)

See you soon Bethany!! :-)

Before ending the post, I can but talk about the barbecue we did at Andrea's house on Sunday the 8th. What can I say, it was A-W-E-S-O-M-E!

Of course I struggled a bit more than expected to find his house -damn sense of direction!-, which is located in a small area near Chioggia called Ca'Lino. Yes, apparently there is such a place on this planet.

But, again, it was 100% worth it! So much fun, so much sun and so much food!!!! The perfect day for me :-):-).

Thank you for the great day,
you awesome people! :-)

Anyways, playtime is over for real now :-(. I hope to have good news for next time I'll be writing here, that'd be really relieving! :-)

See you!

Now We're Getting Serious: One Month To Go!!

E poi basta, finito tutto.

....

Certo, come no, finito tutto...

-----------
Oh my God! It's already been a month since the last post! Really, time flies!!

Anyway, I'm here again to bore you with my storytelling about what I do, how life is going and other (not) interesting stuff ;-).

- I'm apologizing in advance for this which is very likely going to be a badly written post, but I'm a bit rusty :-( -

Of course, the main reason for this lack of news has something to do with University. I know, impossible to guess. Anyway, April has probably been the toughest month of all my "career" as a student. I'm not even joking when I tell you that there has been very little free time to do almost anything else.

The reason? It's quite simple, actually: I've been staying at Uni for no less than 8 hours a day from Monday to Friday to attend classes. Which sometimes meant being back home at 6 pm or later.

After all, it's the month in which a lot of extra classes are added to catch up on the programme (yes, our schedules are planned considering in advance that it's impossible to end the course on time and therefore setting aside a couple of weeks to catch up is needed).

Moreover, we as class asked for the lessons to finish a week before, to have more time for finals preparation. No need to say it's quite an effort we decided to make, but it's the best alternative we have.

More-moreover, mine hasn't been simple catching-up. Approximately a month ago, the 30th of March, a new class started: Hispanic Literature and Translation.

But why beginning so late? Apparently because our teacher, a relatively young and well prepared researcher, happened to be in Mexico until the previous week for working reasons.

Obvious consequence: having to speed up to complete in a bit more than one month what would normally require three months. It goes without saying that we've been struggling quite a lot, despite the well arranged  and incredibly detailed lectures. No need to mention it's a pity to ruin something that has all that is needed to be a good and engaging subject. Bah, we'll see...

But  there is also some light amongst all this struggling: in a bit more than one week, as long as no further surprises come out, I'll have attended my last class. And then no more. This means I'm very close to the final step of my adventure here. I still don't know if it's real or if I'm just dreaming! Has it already been three years?!

....

Of course I'm not forgetting anything: I still have five exams to pass (and a dissertation to write) before calling myself out of it.

My rational part had already decided it would be impossible to try to get my degree in this summer session (I'd need to pass all my exams in 8 days, which is insane), so, when the dates came out, I hadn't much to think about: everything postponed until October-November.

Do not misunderstand, I still have to pass 5 exams between may and June, only with less pressure and stress, which will bring - I hope - better results.

And my dissertation is the only thing I know I'll be doing for sure over summer; the rest, I do not yet.

Let's sum up briefly, just to see things from a better point of view:

- Spanish: the most difficult one. Albeit our teacher spent quite some time reassuring us and saying there's no need to worry so much -at this point, I know for sure he sees reality with different eyes- because the test is going to be relatively easy for those who study. Well, I do not agree. And I have 1500 reasons for thinking so.

- Literature: a big question mark here, since the teacher is new and we don't know her.

- The two interpreting exams: they'll be challenging. At first sight, not too difficult to pass, but I've learned that here not being at 100% may be enough to fail and ruin everything. Not to be underestimated (hoping not to get ill 3 days before the exam this time! ;-) ).

- English: as always, the one I care about and hope to enjoy the most. First, a written grammar part that shouldn't be troublesome. Then the more challenging "practical" part, which consists of a written half (the listening could be dangerous here!) and an oral, in which we'll be asked to speak about potentially anything. What is valued here is the ability to talk in the most fluent and elaborate way possible, giving personal opinions and trying to back them up with the right arguments. As I said, it's not going to be easy, but I can't wait!!!

Now, as pointed out in the title, it's time to get serious because playtime is over. This is going to be the last effort to cross the line and end this three years long race.

Wish me luck!!! :-) :-)

PS this is the first post written with my brand new Macbook. Man, I love this laptop! I won't have to endure three months abroad with only my phone anymore!!

Here Comes Spring (And Good News With It)!!

D'altronde, cos'altro poteva trovare e scegliere un chiacchierone come me? ;);)

A presto!! :)

-----------------

Let's begin with a short introduction: this was not the kind of Easter I'm used to, regarding especially the amount of food eaten. Yes, you got it right: this year, no feast and eating as if there's no tomorrow. Nevertheless, the food was delicious and this is what really matters together with being surrounded by great people such as (part of) my family :).

Since I wasn't in the mood for anything tiring or laborious -and considering it's been almost a month since I last posted something (the extraordinary review of The Oscar Night, for those of you who still haven't read it)- I thought writing a short post was the best thing to do.

A few days ago, Spring finally made her appearance. As everyone knows, Spring is the season in which everything comes back to life. A sort of rebirth after Autumn and Winter, and I love it so much.
Even though, to be honest, I don't have a favorite season: each one of them gives me something unique and magical to appreciate.

Of course, as just mentioned, this collective rebirth includes, above all, Nature. In these days you can see flowers blossoming almost everywhere and the trees covered with beautiful colours. Also, days get longer and the sun starts shining more regularly.

This made the trip to Uni a lot easier ;-)

And I must say I've been blessed with some of these "gifts": new energy and a big deal of positivity (needed this one way too much) reached me. This proves how I've been able to deal with Uni workload quite (and surprisingly) well lately. For now, at least.

But I'm sure a great deal of this optimism came from what happened a few days ago. I finally got some really great news: I have a supervisor for my thesis!!! I can assure after receiving that long-awaited mail I was bobbing on my chair and I went on dancing euphorically for quite some time :). Seriously, I was really stressed because of the lack of news in that sense. Now I can finally cross out this from my to-do list and focus on other not less important things.

And, last but not least, I found also the book to translate!!! Amazing!! The title is "Saber Hablar", which basically means this is a book about the art of conversation. Hey, did you really expect something different from a first class chatterbox like me?! ;-)

The more I'm going on with the reading, the more I'm falling in love with this book: it's something really interesting that I'm sure will teach me a lot. Translating it is going to be quite challenging, but, all things considered, I believe I'm really going to enjoy it a great deal :-).

And that's all for now! But I cannot leave without wishing everyone a Happy Easter (despite not knowing when this is coming out haha. In case it's after Easter, I hope you all had a lovely day :-) )!

See you soon!!

And The Oscar Goes To...

Capitolo miglior film: spietata lotta a 3 secondo i pronostici.

And the Oscar goes to…. ;)

--------------
Here I am again!

Since I'm really keen on cinema, I thought writing something about The Oscars Night would be great, considering also what happened in this 88th edition. Unfortunately, I've never been a talented reviewer, that's why I asked my friend Alessio (a.k.a Cibi) to jot down a couple of lines for me. Not only is he another cinema lover, but he's also a gifted writer (I still don't know why the hell he's studying medicine, bah…) and he immediately accepted. What follows this short introduction is his work, I only translated it into English -or at least, I tried, since I'm sure I wasn't able to imitate his unique style. Apologies for that, foreign readers!!

But now it's time for me to leave the stage. I hope you'll enjoy the post because, as I said before, his style is quite unique and extremely engaging.

Anyway, let's cut to the chase and begin!

<< So, let's have a quick chat about the wonderful Night of The Stars -maybe not so quick, since this year my friend Jacopo gave me this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to collaborate with him and be part of his famous blog: basically, he's going to translate the crappy stuff I write as comment regarding this extraordinary event, so I'm fully allowed to be as detailed as possible, just to make his task more difficult ;).

Of course, I can but begin with the Red Carpet. The arrival and the entrance of Hollywood most famous faces into the Dolby Theatre, where the real ceremony takes place, has to be appreciated mainly for its aesthetically value, besides for being the last "warm-up" before the real show begins. Here you can enjoy your favourite characters' interviews cheering for them while eating pop corn on the sofa. Since, besides cinema, I also appreciate stylish dresses, here there are my personal Oscars for the Elegance.

Ladies first: Alicia Vikander's yellow and "pailetted" dress was absolutely gorgeous, while the wonderful Cate Blanchett's one was "brave" and rather floreal.

But the uncontested queen of the evening is the beautiful Charlize Theron and her regal red dress with train.

As far as the men are concerned, I can but point out Eddie Redmayne's "clean" and typically British elegance, Ryan Gosling's white bow tie and, above all, Jared Leto's classy style: his red decorated jacket, the pair of slippers and the unconventional Gucci rose at his neck show he's definitely two steps ahead of all the others.

The 2015 Best Actor, Eddie Redmayne

But now it's time to say something about the real Awards. I must say Chris Pratt's long monologue, mainly focused on the #OscarsSoWhite topic, then partly minimized ("I met at least 15 black people while coming here"), wasn't exactly the most thrilling opening, especially if compared to last year's (did anyone say Neil Patrick Harris?).

Ready, steady, go and Spotlight and The Big Short claimed the statuettes for Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay, respectively. Not too surprising a choice, and certainly the right one.

There's nothing to say about Inside Out being awarded as Best Animated Featured Film, which allowed Pixar to finally scoop up the statuette again after three years empty-handed; 100% deserved.

Then it was time for Mad Max Fury Road merciless solo, since it literally didn't leave a single scrap for the other movies. It raided all the "technical" Awards: that makes six statuettes for Best Film Editing, Best Visual Effects, Best Costume Design, Best Sound Mixing and Sound Editing and Best Production Design. No mercy at all, eh?

There's very little to argue about its victories: winning "technical" prizes means that the movie is the best in those categories. Stop. It's slightly different if compared to the "artistic" Oscars, whose assignments can be discussed and debated for ages.

But hold on a minute: what about the Best Cinematography? Did Mad Max claim this award as well??

Of course the best movie in this category could but be Revenant. Its pictures and shots of British Columbia landscapes covered with snow and of Argentinian most savage empty lands were truly artistic portraits of our world. Absolutely out of any other movie range.

This victory was proof once again of the tremendous ability of Emmanuel Lubezki, a.k.a "El Chivo", someone capable of winning three consecutive Oscars in the same category (Bridman and Gravity are his other two masterpieces).

To be quite honest, there's one last "technical" Award to talk about, the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, which could go only to Star Wars, the "big one" between the left behind. And here we have the first great surprise of the evening: George Lucas' creature lost to Ex Machina, where Alicia Vikander is transformed into a transparent-skin robot which the great Maestro Gianni Canova referred to as "the most erotic creature in the modern science fiction".

When they announced the winner for The Best Original Score, The Hateful Eight soundtrack by our Ennio Morricone, I couldn't keep myself from dropping a couple of tears. Such a touching moment watching the 87 year old Maestro reaching the stage with his son while being honoured by the whole Dolby Theatre with a deafening standing ovation. The acceptance speech was short, but not less moving: he dedicated the Award to his wife and to the legendary Quentin Tarantino, who a few days ago had compared him to Beethoven and Mozart.

We're so proud of you!

Apparently, Alicia Vikander's show wasn't over yet, since she won, as expected, the Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Danish Girl. While announcing her name, it was Eddie Radmayne the one going emotional; but the only lucky guy here was Michael Fassbender, who was kissed warmly by the winner, proving the rumors about their relationship to be well-founded.

And then it was Brie Larson's turn to celebrate for winning the Best Actress thanks to her outstanding performance in Room, "smiting" two far more famous and fierce competitors such as Cate Blanchett and Jennifer Lawrence. First nomination and first victory, 100% accuracy for the actress, just like a practised sniper.

Now a bit of a sore subject: despite having basically already won the Best Supporting Actor for his role in Creed, according to the bookies,  the Academy awarded Mark Rilance, the soviet spy in the last of Spielberg's work. This meant Stallone failed again in winning the statuette after the previous attempts with the Rocky saga. Again, got over the surprise, I have to admit that Rilance didn't steal anything.

Best Film Chapter: fierce battle between the 3 predicted competitors. Will it be the mystical and artistic Revenant, whose talented director had just been awarded for the second time in a row, the pedagogic Spotlight (an investigative report about the pedophilia among priests), or the lively The Big Short (a dramatic comedy about banks collapse and those few mad ones who had predicted it)?
Morgan Freeman announced the winner…Spotlight!!

Well, I believe we can call it a day and end this review. Goodnight to you all!!

….

Come on, did you really think I would leave you now?! We both know, dear reader, why you've been reading this post, we both know what's the main reason for which you watched the Oscars Night, so let's say a few words about this final and most important chapter.

Leonardo DiCaprio won the Best Actor for Revenant!

No surprising turns of events, everyone felt the legendary Leo was about to lift the "heaviest" statuette for the first time after not one or two, but six nominations. After winning the SAG and the Golden Globe in the past three weeks, the Oscar closed the circle. I wonder what will all the Internet meme creators do now.

His last performance was beyond words, something so very great, but at the same time extremely arduous (unless you are used to fording rivers with the very high temperature of -40°C, while wearing a mammoth-ish fur coat and, just to make it more thrilling, while having bronchitis).

Leo thanked everyone and immediately took the chance to underline the importance of preserving our planet and the environment around us. Being he involved in so many social activities and using the acceptance speech time to talk about climate change. This showed this year winner is not only a gifted actor, but also a very intelligent man and a person of stature. After all, if you are allowed to bring any super top model to your special day, but you rather come with your mother, you really have something special.

I absolutely must mention the sweet and affectionate look his beloved friend Kate Winslet gave him while he was finally taking that crown he had deserved to receive more than once.

Awwww! <3

The golden boy showed also some self-irony after the ceremony. While the woman was engraving his name on the statuette, he couldn't keep himself from asking "Do you do this every year?" and then quipping "Sorry, I wouldn't know that!" after her nod. Then he received a booklet for Oscar maintenance and asked for instructions about how he was supposed to do that. You'll better get used to it Leo!

Since I'm feeling blessed by Apollo's gift of prophecy, I'm firmly convinced this won't be DiCaprio's last Oscar, but the only the first one. We'll see with next year's The Crowded Room, the history of Billy Milligan, the man with 27 personalities. Starring, of course, the Academy Award Winner, Leonardo DiCaprio. >>

Cheers!

And that's all folks! I hope you enjoyed reading this long post at least as much as I enjoyed writing it! I put quite an effort to make my friend proud and to give you the best possible post to read, hope it was worth it! :)

But before bringing the curtain down, I'd like to add only one thing. Ale, how come you forgot to talk about the Oscar for the Best Review of the Academy Awards Night? Let me say you won this one, congratulations! :):)

And the Oscar goes to… ;)

I'm Still Alive!!

Cosa fare?

-------------

Yes, I'm still alive! Apparently, I've not been taken down by life and all things related to it yet! :)

And what better way of celebrating this than annoying you with a couple of lines regarding this last bunch of days and all the glorious (oh, please!) endeavours related to them? ;)

So let's start by saying thaaaaat….. nothing interesting enough to deserve a special post happened. Such a boring life this one of mine, isn't it?

The few things occurred lately are almost all Uni-related - which is not surprising at all.

And this because I decided it was time to get serious, at least until June. With all this hard work I really hope to pass the 5 bloody exams that stand between me and my long-desired degree without needing a second try. And possibly with good grades. Not to sound presumptuous eh :)

But to do that I need to start far in advance (time flies quickly) and to sacrifice something else. Any volunteer? "I volunteer as tribute!" -said my social life. Or at least a big part of it.

After all, since the nasty schedule, it's difficult to do better than this. I'm resigned to having busier weekends alongside with the other 5 days of the week. I know it's sad, but there's no alternative. Bah… :(

As far as my classes are concerned, I don't have much to add to what I've already said. I'm very into English and Interpreting, hopefully there might be something useful for my future into these subjects.

A pity I can't say the same about Spanish. Not that I don't like the language, I do, or classes are so terrible it's impossible to follow the lesson. They're just less engaging, so I'd say that my main goal for this one is to do my best to survive till the end, then we'll see.

Chapter 1: Thesis.
Not a very happy one, since my first choice as supervisor kindly refused to help me and the second one basically not very kindly ignored my request. Hey, you can take your time to answer me. It's me the one who can't get that bloody degree without thesis, so don't worry too much, you have absolutely nothing to lose :(.

Chapter 2: Future.
A lot of plans, ideas, dreams, but still nothing 100% sure. What should I do? Should I look for a master here in Italy right after my 3-years degree? Or should I try my luck and move abroad for a while to improve my still basic and academic level of English? Or maybe picking a master in Denmark/Sweden/...? I honestly don't know what to do. I need my time to do the right choice, since it's me and my future we're talking about.

Apparently, I'm not so good at planning and organizing things as I thought I was ;)

Who knows, anything can happen...

For now let's find the right balance to be able to deal with everything in the best way possible, without neglecting things such as friends and myself and, a key point, health. I know by past experience what stress for trying to do too many things at once brings.

Good, this very short updating post is finished, together with my time away from books (nice way to rest, isn't it? ;) )

Wow, I managed to write this one more quickly than I thought! (do not throw stones at me for the incredible amount of mistakes I'm sure I made, I was tired while writing -excuse ;-) ).

I take the chance of this post to say again how happy I am for the great news my friend Bethany has recently received. You deserved that opportunity for you've worked so hard and you've put in so much effort. I REALLY hope it'll be something exceptionally wonderful and any single moment there to be amazing!! :)

If A Good Beginning Makes A Good Ending, I'm Definitely Going to Enjoy This Last Semester :)

----------

Having successfully gone through this first week of Semester Two, I can but write a post to celebrate my comeback to Uni after so much time :):).

As I said plenty of times -I believe-, I was counting days: I couldn't wait anymore! And I'm happy to notice I still have at least 95% of that positivity inside me now, just before Week Two begins :). I really hope it will last until May-June, because the term is long and I desperately need it to survive through it!

Of course, I need to be realist as well: I know there'll be difficult moments (and I'm pretty sure I already know exactly which courses they'll be related to), but that's when I have to keep going forward, believing in myself because this is the right pattern for me to follow. And, honestly, it'd be really stupid -to say the very least!- quitting now that I'm so close to the end of the race. So I'm asking this to all of you who know me: when these difficulties come to stand me and my moaning, please, reminding me these words of mine! Thanks a lot in advance! :):)

To sum up, I'm ready to work a lot and to enjoy it! Yay!!

Anyway, my courses. I LOVE ENGLISH (no prizes for guessing that ;) ). And this even though one of the two teachers was absent due to some personal reasons.

What I can say is that the new teacher, Mrs Davies, has quickly gained points, personally speaking. Of course, she's a native speaker from England -would have gone crazy with any different option-, she's also so practical, but without being cold: she tries her best to listen as many people possible (not easy with 70 students) making good corrections where necessary, at the same time encouraging us to constantly improve our level. I couldn't ask for anything more. Thanks God, we've been lucky with her:

So, yeah… I think it's pretty noticeable how happy I am of having her for this semester :).

I'll have to work a lot, but I expect nothing less, since I'm fully aware mastering a language is no easy task at all and without hard work and constant practice, everyone would be unlikely to succeed.

And, as university students, we're expected to work hard, aren't we?

She's going to give us readings to prepare and to reflect upon. Not to mention the other assignment: we're asked to choose any topic we like, research about it and organize a kind of presentation for the lesson. Both of them on a weekly base.

She wants us to make the most of what we do at home, in terms of acquiring new vocabulary and fluency. After all, we're supposed to reach C2 level by the end of the semester (disagree on this point, but that's another story. Ask me if interested ;) ).

Back on our assignments, I rather enjoyed preparing my topic (despite the considerable effort and amount of time required). Surfing the net, I casually bumped into an article, extremely interesting indeed, related to the difficulties that all the apps for quick translation come to face when dealing with regional dialects, which of course differ a lot from the main language.

Of course, the dialect analyzed was somehow related to Britain -you know I'm in love with that part of the world-. I'm talking about…SCOUSE!!!

Considering how much time I spend on the web listening to how the different accents sounds like (but don't ask me to imitate them, I'd end up embarrassing myself too much!!), I couldn't be more lucky! I had managed to find something I'd love to work on pretty quickly!!

For those of you who don't know it, Scouse is the language (it's more than a simple dialect) spoken in Liverpool.

I'm telling you, don't think knowing English can be of much use when at the time of having a face-to-face conversation with a Liverpudlian. Forget about it!

If you don't believe me, on YT you can find some audios that'll change your mind (for football lovers, do you know Steven Gerrard, right? Try and listen to the way he speaks).

Anyway, I had the great idea of researching for some basic Scouse phonetics, just to become more familiar with it -I know it'd be pointless, but I needed a proper way to spend my time.

I think the word "dangerous" fits quite
well when speaking of (attempting at)
studying Scouse ;)

And I somehow enjoyed it -more or less.

Briefly, most of the other courses have pretty much the same structure and teachers as last year, the main difference is related, as expected, to the difficulty of the subject.

Spare me the pain, I don't want to talk about the practice part of Interpreting Eng.-Ita. I just say I'm curious about the new teacher for the other half of the course. Ok, maybe it's still to soon to judge her, but the first impression is rather positive, so hopefully, I'm being lucky also here!

I hope they'll spend as much time as possible teaching us how to deal with the multiple situations an interpreter can find himself/ herself working in: conference, negotiation, chuchotage, etc… If this is the schedule, I'm really looking forward to it!

The "worst", I'm keeping it for the last part. Spanish. What I like: I already know the teachers and their methods. What I don't like: guess what? The method. Apparently, we'll be asked to memorize thousands of idiomatic expressions (most of them archaic, or of ancient origin and use!) and stuff like that. I am not likely to change my mind with regards to the fact that this is not the proper way of teaching a language. Not to mention it's going to be useless, since the incredibly short amount of time our minds will need to forget everything learned this way.

1, 2,…3! Et voilà, nothing's left!

And this is a shame. At this point, I don't care of the mark I'll get in the exam (not to show off, but memorising things is something I've always been good at). I'd rather "score" an 18 and having treasured a lot of useful stuff than getting a 30 (28 in my case with Spanish exams ;) ) but being left with almost nothing.

Anyway, we'll see about that.

Great! These were my first feelings about this Semester Two that, just to make it clear, has begun in a good way. Hope it'll be the same till its end though!! :)

I'll have more than enough time to re-introduce this topic together with some new stuff - hey, I have a thesis to write and a post-graduation future to plan!!!

Yes, these are going to be some reaaaally intense months! :)
